Workshops

Summary:

Based on their acclaimed book, Mother-Daughter Duets, the real-life mother daughter team of Dr. Shura Saul and Jennifer Rossvally will conduct a lively and memorable workshop at your location that focuses on the ever-changing relationship of mature daughters and their aging mothers.

Through discussions and experiential exercises, the participants are offered opportunities to develop deepened insights into their own relationships. Attendees will leave with newfound respect and understanding that will help facilitate even better family relations between young and old.

Families and individual mothers/daughters are all welcome.

Description:

These are not typical “prescription advice” workshops. They are learning and self-help experiences, a way  of  comfort  toward  developing deepened insights and improved understanding.

Real people and real situations are informally role played by participants and sometimes by the presenters themselves. The role plays highlight issues and concerns that develop between and among family members .

No mythology, no stereotypes, no emotional button-pushing ….. actual people struggling, in their own words, with the deepest complexities of  powerful  human interactions. Participants will experience the emotional dynamic of these highly charged interactions. The frustrations, the lifelong angers and the profound love that binds  members of a family are revealed in the role plays and ensuing discussions.

These exercises invite readers to think about their own experiences and emotional responses toward a better understanding of themselves and their relationships.

The basic point of view  underlying this experience is that life and its process for each individual, is not a journey of simple clichés and simple answers.  The workshops and role plays consider the uniqueness of each relationship  viewed within the framework  of  the commonalities of the human condition.

Note: In selected groups, and when requested, similar role-plays may be developed about experiences in the work place. These are especially valuable for people working in professional teams combining their knowledge, their skills , and their shared philosophies toward a common purpose.

Praise for workshops:

“I want to say thank you again for the workshop, Beyond the Barriers: Communicating Effectively with an Elder, that you presented to the faculty, staff, students, and retirees at UC Berkeley in November.  I so appreciated your expertise in presenting a difficult topic to our audience, many of whom are caregivers to an elder.” – Maureen Kelly, UC Berkeley

“Thank you so very much for the wonderful workshop you presented today. I received such positive feedback from the participants. Everyone found it very helpful to look at the case study from all three sides. We also found it enlightening when Shura that ‘it wasn’t role reversal but task reversal’ because that’s exactly what it is, and we never looked at it that way.” –Judy Fink, Director of Geriatric Services, Westchester Jewish Community Services

“Thank you so much for your gracious and stimulating discussion with the Lewisboro Seniors group last Wednesday. It was great fun to see people engaging who normally are quiet…” Kitty Wynkoop, Active Living Over Fifty, Inc.
